Career Day - Sarah of Sadie Seasongoods, Greenville SC vintage home goods

August 30, 2017

Sarah is a biologist by day and a vintage home goods collector and blogger at Sadie Seasongoods by night! She specializes in small goods and has a knack for finding these little treasures all throughout Greenville. It was fun to see her at work collecting some of these things as I walked with her through Red Ribbon Resale in West Greenville. I loved hearing about her blog and what's next for her too!

1. Tell us what you do.

I am the owner/editor/blogger behind the website, Sadie Seasongoods. It's a blog that is dedicated to approachable repurposing and upcycling DIY projects using vintage treasures and thrift store finds. My hope is to encourage others to lead a life that is more creative and less disposable.

2. What’s your favorite part of your job?

I'm a one-woman show, so I do it all! It's actually easier to list out my least favorite part- the tech side of blogging! But I love everything else- the brainstorming of projects, the hunt for inspiration (i.e., "stuff" to be repurposed), project creation, photography, and writing blog posts.

3. What are you looking forward to most this year? Any big goals or projects that get you excited?

I'm just excited about growing and building...every opportunity is a flagstone in the trail I'm blazing for myself.

4. How did you get started in blogging? What called you to this career?

It was on a whim- an honest-to-goodness half-baked idea that I put very little thought behind. My corporate career was stalling and I needed "something else" in my life. I had always been a maker- a crafter- and decided it would be fun to have a blog where I could chronicle my projects. I had absolutely no idea that it would turn into an opportunity to re-write my future.

5. What’s the biggest overall lesson you’ve learned in running a blog?

That it can be done, haha! I get up and work on it every single day- even when the work isn't exciting, or isn't sexy, or I feel like my growth has plateaued...you just gotta get up and do it because no one else will.

6. Anyone that inspires you or that you look up to in Greenville?

I have a wonderful circle of friends that run their own businesses that are, in different ways, related to mine. They own Kate DiNatale Vintage, Pink Dogwood Jewelry, and Maliasmark- and they are ALL one-woman operations. We learn from and provide support to each other on a daily basis, which has been and continues to be a huge blessing.

Quick Q’s:

Favorite song/podcast/station to listen to while you work?

I have a vintage soul, so I listen to a LOT of '60s and '70s tunes. From Wilson Pickett to CCR to KC and the Sunshine Band- that's my jam.

Daily uniform?

Anything comfortable and can be "ruined" with paint, wood stain, etc. My home is my workshop- and I'm always BEHIND the camera- so who knows? Sometimes my uniform is jeans and a t-shirt, sometimes it's PJs!

What’s currently on your desk or in your workspace?

My laptop, my phone, scratch paper with lists and ideas, a La Croix, and probably Cottonball (my apprentice cat), who has probably knocked my last pen on the floor.

Last book you read?

One of Sarah Addison Allen's books- I can read them over and over again.

Favorite restaurant in Greenville?

I can't possibly pick just one- Stella's, Trappe Door, Korean BBQ at Woodruff and Miller, or Aryana.
