Julie creates the most beautiful floral arrangements and her talent is one that I envy! I love how her arrangements look so effortless but so artistic all at the same time and it was such a joy to get to go to her studio and watch her at work. She's got some short and sweet advice for all those budding entrepreneurs out there and I'm excited to share it with y'all.
Tell us what you do in a few sentences.
I primarily create flower arrangements for weddings, but I also make arrangements for all kinds of occasions - showers, annivesaries, funerals, parties and corporate functions.
How did you get started in this industry?
A combination of working with retail florists and working with my sister doing friends' weddings.
What are you looking forward to most this year? Any big goals or projects that get you excited?
Teaching and hosting a retreat in france (with Emily Jeffords) in May!
Where do you draw creative inspiration?
Being outdoors - I like to run/hike outside.
What’s the biggest overall lesson you’ve learned in running a business?
Work hard, say you're sorry, always try to improve your craft and your communication.
Any advice for women interested in what you do?
Don't be discouraged at the behinning when you draw inspiration from other people in a similar line of work-you have to copy other work until you find your own style.
Anyone that inspires you or that you look up to in Greenville?
There are loads of people who inspire me. One person is Barb Blair. She is a near perfect picture of being self-assured of your style while still evolving; and being a present woman/wife/parent to her family and friends.
Favorite workout or pump-up jam?
A trail run with my itunes on shuffle - a musical surprise!
Tool you use most on the go?
My dollar store scissors in case I need to clip something on the go.
Glorified yoga pants so I can bend easily and usually a flowy top.
What’s currently on your desk or in your workspace?
A plant, a painting, papers and a lighter for all my candle lighting whims.
Biggest influence in biz work?
My husband - he is a critical thinker and always is willing to help me think through good solutions.
